Denis Istomin has started 2017 Australian Open with a victory over Croatia's Ivan Dodig


Uzbekistan’s first seeded male tennis Denis Istomin has started its participation with a victory in 2017 Australian Open.

At the end of the round one, Istomin has begun to play in men’s single against Croatia’s Ivan Dodig who became a Grand Slam champion after winning the 2015 French Open men's doubles title with Marcelo Melo.

Before this battle at 2017 Australian Open, the Istomin faced off his Croatian opponent in four matches getting two victories as he lost the rest to Dodig. In 2007, they met up in the ATP Astana Challenger took place in Kazakhstan as Uzbekistan’s Istomin grabbed his rival for the first team. But, he failed to secure victories in two subsequent matches in 2013 ATP Eastbourne and 2015 ATP Rome Masters. Last time, he stunned Ivan Dodig in the quarterfinals of 2016 ATP Tashkent Challenger.

In 2017 Australian Open, both tennis players showed up a good performance for tennis fans who visited the Melbourne Park. Istomin won the first two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-4 before he gave the opportunity to take the third one to Ivan Dodig. But, Uzbekistan’s top player secured a victory at the end of the fourth set of the match, 7-5.



Denis Istomin will continue to take part in the tournament with a match against the second-seeded player of 2017 Australian Open Novak Djokovic who left managed to succeed in the first round with a victory over Fernando Verdasco.
