Uzbekistan on the brink of title after IR Iran win

Uzbekistan are in the driver’s seat to claim the CAFA U-23 Women’s Championship after registering a 3-0 win over previously unbeaten Islamic Republic of Iran on Tuesday.

Uzbekistan continued their outstanding week of results, earning a convincing 3-0 win against Islamic Republic of Iran to all but seal the regional title at Hisor’s Central Stadium.

Senior national stars played a key role in Uzbekistan’s triumph as they moved to four wins from four matches, having racked up 26 unanswered goals.

Uzbekistan took the lead through Nilufar Kudratova in the 14th minute but it was Umida’s Zoirova’s goal in the 65th minute which put Norasafrov’s charges within sight of another victory.

Iran continued to fight for a way back into the match, but Dildora Nozimova added a third to dash any chance of a late recovery as Uzbekistan sealed a key win.

They now hold a three-point, 14-goal advantage going into the final day of action, meaning it would take a stunning last-minute form reversal for Uzbekistan to miss out on the title.
