Hungary to host the 65th Bocskai Memorial Tournament

The next 65^th edition of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament will be held in the city of Debrecen, Hungary on February 7-13 this year. The upcoming Bocskai Memorial Tournament will be held with strict Covid-19 measures and safety instructions in Hungary to avoid any new cases.  

The Bocskai Memorial Tournament is one of the strongest European elite international competitions which was launched in the middle of the ‘1950s. Kazakhstan, India and Mongolia are continuous participants from the Asian nations in the Bocskai Memorial Tournament but Thailand, Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, China, South Korea and Jordan also attended in the event in the recent years.

The 62nd edition of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament was held in Debrecen, Hungary on February 2018 where two Asian nations, such as Kazakhstan and Mongolia competed for the medals. Among them Kazakhstan, led by coach Mr. Marat Dzhakiyev took three gold medals in the event following Ilyas Suleimenov, Sanatali Toltayev and Aslanbek Shymbergenov defeated all of their rivals in Debrecen.

The 63^rd edition of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament was held in 2019 where strong Asian teams attended in the competition. Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Women’s World Champion Chen Nien Chin, and Kazakhstan’s new sensations such as Saken Bibossynov, Serik Temirzhanov and Tursynbai Kulakhmet won the gold medals among the Asian boxers. The Best Boxer Trophy of the 2019 Bocskai Memorial Tournament was taken by Kazakhstan’s 20-year-old Serik Temirzhanov in Debrecen.

The finals of the last 64^th edition of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament were held in the city of Debrecen one year ago where the Asian boxers proved strong performances. Kazakhstan earned three gold medals in the competition which is one of the biggest and oldest international tournaments in the European continent launched it in 1956. The Indian boxers also impressed with their tough performances and achieved four silver medals in Debrecen.  Kazakhstan’s two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan is their best boxer among the hopes who were born in 2001. He is one of the best elite flyweight (52kg) boxers in their country in spite of the fact that he is only 19. Sabyrkhan had to meet in the final in a classic Asian battle against India’s Yerevan 2012 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Lalitha Prasad but he managed to win that battle in one of the best contests of the 2020 Bocskai Memorial Tournament.
