41-year-old Tajikistani midfielder may continue his career in FC Andijan

Tajikistani footballer Akmal Kholmatov may continue his career in Uzbekistan First Liga side FC Andijan after his former club FC Shurtan terminated the contract.

Andijan side is close to signing a contract with a 41-year-old midfielder ahead of the second phase of the league.

Kholmatov played for Regar-TadAZ between 1993 and 1996. During 1996 Kholmatov moved to Uzbekistan, signing for FC Neftchi Fergana, and becoming an Uzbek citizen in 2001. After 12 years in Fergana, Kholmatov moved to fellow Uzbek club Pakhtakor Tashkent for three seasons, before joining Iranian side PAS Hamedan in 2011.

A year later Kholmatov returned to Uzbekistan with FC Lokomotiv Tashkent before rejoining FC Neftchi in 2014. Kholmatov left Fergana side at the end of the 2015 season. After leaving FC Neftchi, Kholmatov featured for FC Istiklol in the pre-season friendlies, scoring in a 3-1 defeat to Várda SE in February 2016. Then, Kholmatov left FC Istiklol returning to FC Neftchi before he joined FC Shurtan.
