Preview. FC AGMK to struggle with Port FC for a semifinal spot

The hosts, who are vying for their maiden title, will be aiming to surpass their 2010 feat of finishing fourth in the tournament.

AGMK have never faced Port FC and the Uzbekistan club will be hoping to continue their impressive form in the last-eight.

Port FC have kept three clean sheets in the competition and their only blemish was conceding once in their 4-1 win over China PR’s Shenzhen Nanling Tielang.

Head coach Udom Taveesuk is confident of Port FC’s ability to defeat Shenzhen but admitted his players will have to work hard to beat a tough AGMK side.

“We will be up against a good AGMK side tomorrow. Most of their players are from the Uzbekistan national team who have good teamwork and will be a tough team to beat."

Port FC have not been goal shy in the tournament, scoring 10 goals, and Udom wants to stretch their unbeaten run.

“Our team has progressed this far in the competition and we hope to achieve our target of reaching the semi-finals.”

AGMK, having never progressed from the group stage in their previous appearances, impressed this time around by finishing second in their group.

The Uzbekistan club had a slow start to their campaign, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Thai Son Nam but bounced back to register wins against Iraq’s Naft Al Wasat and Al Rayyan of Qatar.

Head coach Aleksandr Petrov wants his players to continue working hard when they face Port FC.

“Port FC are a very strong team. We have seen them in action and we know what they are capable of. The plan is to continue playing our game and hopefully it works in our favour.”
