Uzbekistan's Para-athletes get a warm welcome home at the Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport

Uzbekistan’s athletes received a warm welcome following their landmark results in the 2017 IPC World Para Athletics Championships in London on July 14-23.

Fans hoisted national flags as they lined up at the Islam Karimov International Airport in Tashkent to receive the Para-athletes.

Uzbekistan’s Doniyor Saliev led the way in the men’s long jump T12 from the opening round, leaping over seven metres in each of his six attempts. His final round effort of 7.18m sealed the win.

His compatriot Khusniddin Norbekov also safely defended his world title, winning gold in the men’s discus F37 to add to the Paralympic title he won last year.

Uzbekistan's Aleksandr Svechnikov, who has spent his life looking up to Czech javelin world record holder and former Olympic champion Jan Zeleny, set a world best for himself of 71.01m in the F13 javelin.

Nozimakhon Kayumova of Uzbekistan received silver medal in the F13 javelin and Sofiya Burhonova also claimed silver medal in Women's Discus Throw F12 Final.
