Tashkent Open 2017. Vera Zvonareva qualifies for Main Draw
Former world No 2 Vera Zvonareva of Russia outplayed third-seeded Jasmine Paolini of Italy 6-0, 6-2 to enter the main draw of the 19th edition of Tashkent Open WTA Championships being played at the Republican Olympic Reserve School of Tennis in Tashkent.
Top seed Jana Fett of Croatia, fifth seed Lizette Cabrera of Australia and fourth-seeded Irina Khromacheva of Russia were the other qualifiers.
In a second consecutive tight encounter, Lizette Cabrera of Australia pulled off a big win ousting higher ranked Ana Bogdan of Romania 6-1,2-6,7-6(4) after being down 4-5 in the deciding set .
Top seeded Jana Fett of Croatia spent less than 20 minutes on the court, as seventh seeded Ipek Soylu of Turkey retired at 0-3.0 In All Russian affair fourth seeded Irina Khromacheva out powered eighth seeded Anna Kalinskaya 6-0, 6-1 to make it to the main draw.
While the winners of today's match apart from an entry into the main draw assured themselves of 18 points and $2220 each for their effort, the losers will have to be content with 12 points and $1285 each.
