Excitement builds in Uzbekistan as Super League returns into action

The long wait for top flight football will soon be over in Uzbekistan with the country’s Super League to return with a full seven-match fixture list starting next Saturday.

But while competitive fixtures may still be a few days away, several clubs moved a step closer to serious action with friendly matches across the weekend.

Unbeaten FC Nasaf geared up for their clash against Navbahor – a match which was voted the most anticipated of next week’s fixtures by fans on the AFC Telegram account – with a 2-1 win over second tier outfit FC Shurtan Guzar, while Kokand-1912 beat Navbahor by the same margin.

Lokomotiv fell 1-0 to AGMK in a match which saw both sides make wholesale changes at half-time, while Bunyodkor fell to a 2-1 defeat against Uzbekistan Pro League side Oktepa Tashkent.

Earlier in the weekend, Mate Vatsadze netted a hat-trick as AGMK defeated lower division outfit Rubin 7-2 in the first of two outings in as many days.

Bunyodkor will host Kokand-1912 on Saturday in the first Super League match since March 5. Matches will be played behind closed doors.
