FC Bunyodkor down Al Zawraa Club to claim a spot in next week’s play-off

Murod Khalmukhamedov put the hosts ahead with an early penalty before Humoyun Murtozaev scored a second half brace, with Boburbek Farkhadov also finding the net in a dominant display from Vadim Abramov’s side.

With their 2020 AFC Champions League hopes on the line, both sides had no shortage of motivation in cold conditions at JAR Stadium, but it was the hosts who took the early advantage, with Khalmukhamedov easily converting a spot-kick in the ninth minute.

Al Zawraa remained a single goal behind until half-time, but Murtozaev doubled the advantage within seconds of the kick-off for the second period, and the result was put beyond doubt when substitute Farkhadov added a third with 10 minutes remaining.

Bunyodkor’s romp continued when the on-loan Murtozaev completed his double with five minutes remaining, with Al Zawraa earning the most immaterial of consolation goals when Abbas Qasim Al Kaabi pulled one back in the 89th minute.

While that goal gave them something to show for their trip to Tashkent, the tie was the end of the road in the competition for the Iraqi side, while Abramov’s charges can look forward to next week’s play-off.
