FC Lokomotiv part ways with Andrey Fedorov

Lokomotiv’s press service confirmed the former Uzbekistan star’s dismissal on Thursday evening, three days after the Tashkent club lost 3-1 to AGMK; their sixth defeat in just 10 league matches this season.

That result left the three-time league champions a distant eighth on the league table – 13 points behind leaders Pakhtakor – and looking increasingly likely to finish outside the top two for the first time since 2012.

Lokomotiv’s league struggles have come after they had also failed to qualify for the group stage of the 2020 AFC Champions League, suffering a surprise home defeat to Tajikistan’s FC Istiklol in late January.

The 49-year-old was overseeing his second stint as Lokomotiv boss, having led the club from 2018 until mid-way through 2019, with Samvel Babayan taking the role until Fyodorov returned prior to the 2020 season.

His departure was confirmed in an online statement, with the club saying: “In connection with two consecutive losses, the club's management held a meeting with the players. At this event, the players were informed of the resignation of head coach Andrey Fedorov. Andrey was dismissed due to unsatisfactory results.”
