International triathlon competitions “Challenge Samarkand” will be held in Samarkand
On September 16-17, the international triathlon competition “Challenge Samarkand” will be held in Samarkand. It is expected that 1,700 athletes will take part in the competitions, which will be organized on the territory of the modern tourist complex “Silk Road Samarkand".
A press conference dedicated to the upcoming tournament was held today at the National Press Center. It was attended by Deputy Minister of Youth Policy and Sports Shakhrullo Mahmudov, Secretary General of the NOC Oybek Kasimov, Secretary General of the Triathlon Federation of Uzbekistan Elena Kun, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Farrukh Nasyrov and media representatives. Also, the General Director of the Challenge Family competitions, Zhort Vlam, attended the conference in an online format through the Zoom platform.
First, Elena Kun and Farrukh Nasyrov gave a detailed overview of the upcoming tournament. Competitions will be organized among professionals and amateurs in individual and team sprints and at medium distances, as well as separately among women and children. It should be noted that competitions of this category are held for the first time not only in our country, but also in the Central Asian region. Zhort Vlam expressed satisfaction that the holding of the "Challenge Family" classification competitions in the rich historical Samarkand is of great interest to the international Organization, thanks to which the triathlete family has the opportunity to get to know the culture of the Uzbek people more closely.
In turn, Shakhrullo Mahmudov and Oybek Kasimov noted that Uzbekistan is also ready to organize these competitions at a high level. And this, in turn, will increase the popularity of triathlon among our compatriots. They added that the formation of the route along the historical monuments of the city will make it possible to more widely reveal the tourist opportunities of Samarkand through sports. After that, the media staff received exhaustive answers to their questions.
During the conference, full of interesting discussions, Federation officials noted that representatives of the National team plan to get a ticket to the Paris-2024 Olympic Games, on this way the "Challenge Samarkand" competitions will be a favorable start for domestic triathletes. Online registration has been started for those wishing to participate in this tournament.
