Svetlana Osipova: My motivation to be better than yesterday
Uzbek taekwondist Svetlana Osipova, who won a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, has entered the history of Uzbek sport as the first girl who managed to climb the podium of the Games in this direction. Despite the fact that Svetlana managed to achieve significant results during her professional career, she continues to work on herself and move forward. The press service of the NOC has prepared a short interview with our taekwondist, who demonstrates the potential of Uzbek girls on the world stage.
- 2 years ago, on the eve of the Day of Adoption of the State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan, you won the title of world champion. And you won a silver medal at the main starts of the quadrennium in Paris. Can you remember those feelings? What do you feel at such moments?
- Honestly, I can't describe those feelings. My team and I managed to win a gold medal at the World Championship for the first time in the history of our sport, as well as a silver medal at the Olympic Games in this sport among girls. I am very grateful to our state, association, my team and family for their support. Since I was not able to be among the medalists at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, these results, especially winning the World Championships in Mexico, were very important to me. In those moments I realized that through hard work you can achieve all your goals.
You mentioned that you performed at the Olympics with a small injury. How do you feel now?
- Yes, everything is fine now. At the moment I am recovering, and training continues as well.
- You have medals in all major competitions. Despite this, you continue your career in sport. What motivates you?
- Yes, I managed to get on the podium of all major and prestigious competitions. This is a great result and of course the work of many people. My motivation is to be better than yesterday. I want to show everyone that nothing is impossible. In any situation and position you can learn something, achieve something.
