Uzbek wrestlers to continue their campaign in Tokyo having a chance of claiming bronze medals
Uzbek wrestlers Gulomjon Abdullaev and Javrail Shapiev will continue their Olympic campaign in Tokyo with Repechage contests on Thursday.
In today’s events, Abdullaev was stopped by Zavur Uguev in the quarterfinals as the 26-year-old Russian used more late theatrics to defeat Uzbek wrestler, 6-6 on criteria.
However, the two-time defending world champion Zavur Uguev reached the final, so, Uzbekistan's Gulomjon Abdullaev will struggle with Thomas Gilman on the way to the Olympic bronze medal.
Javrail Shapiev, who dropped his first match with a stunning 11-2 loss to Iran’s Hassan Yazdanicharati, now has a chance to fight for a bronze medal after the Iranian athlete earned a spot in the final.
Uzbek wrestler will compete with Stefan Reichmuth of Switzerland in the Repechage contest at the Makuhari Messe Hall on Thursday.
