Uzbekistan started their campaign on a commanding note, defeating Korea Republic 13-2 in their Group B tie on Thursday with Choriev scoring a hat-trick.

The Central Asians took the lead through Artur Yunusov’s third minute effort, and Choriev followed up with goals in the seventh and eighth minutes, before completing his hat-trick in the 13th to give Bakhodir Akhmedov’s side a comfortable advantage.

“Overall, it was a great game for Uzbekistan. We tried to get a feel of the ground and we felt comfortable,” said the hat-trick hero.

Uzbekistan have finished runners-up four times - in 2001, 2006, 2010 and 2016 - and Choriev said they desperately want the title.

Choriev was part of the White Wolves’ squad in the 2016 heartbreak where they lost 2-1 to 11-time winners Islamic Republic of Iran.

“We hope we can keep this intensity throughout the tournament.

“We have been playing the AFC Futsal Championship very well, and our best finish is coming in second but our goal is to become champions.”
