Ravshan Irmatov breaks his own record in World Cup matches

The highly decorated Asian referee Ravshan Irmatov took charge of his ninth World Cup 2014 match four years ago, breaking the 20-year-old record set by Joel Quiniou of France.

Five-time Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Referee of the Year winner Ravshan Irmatov set a new milestone in the Argentine v Croatia game, becoming the first referee to officiate ten World Cup matches as he renewed his own record in World Cup matches.

He took charge of a World Cup fixture for the first time during the Opening Match of the 2010 World Cup between hosts South Africa and Mexico. Four more games at that edition followed, including the semi-final between the Netherlands and Uruguay, before Irmatov added another four to his total at Brazil 2014.
